FAQ
How long will my plant last?
While there will be always be some variability due to the nature of it being a living plant, with proper care the potted herbs should last 2 weeks or more before needing to be replanted in a larger container.
The hydroponically-grown living basil is intended for more immediate use and should last about a week after harvest, though some customers have had success keeping it much longer.
How do I care for the plants?
Potted living herbs - simply treat them like any other indoor potted plant. Remove the plastic sleeve and keep them watered and put them in a sunny spot.
Hydroponically-grown living basil - remove the plant from the sleeve and put it on a table or countertop in a container, like a drinking glass or mason jar. Add enough water to cover the roots, but keep the stems dry.
My basil turned black. What happened?
That likely is because the basil was exposed to cold temperatures. Living basil is very sensitive to cold and should not be refrigerated at any point. Even just a few moments can cause damage to the plant. For best results, keep it above 50°F.
Can I plant the herbs?
While our herbs are grown and intended to be pampered indoor kitchen plants, it is possible to successfully transplant them outdoors.
Is it all organic?
While all of our potted living herbs are USDA-certified organic, the hydroponically-grown living basil is not due to hydroponic growing methods being very difficult to have certified by the USDA.
However, we grow from organic seed, use only beneficial insects and OMRI-rated (organic-safe) pest control methods and fertilizers. Our families eat our herbs, and they're great for yours, as well.
We do offer organic potted basil to some customers in small batches.
